Edmonton weather: Blustery winds, thunderstorms, and a chance of showers so good you can bet on it

A look at Wednesday’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.

It’s 11 C at the Edmonton Blatchford weather station with 22 km/h winds out of the west northwest.

I always wonder what they mean by a “chance” of showers. Seriously, do they ever forecast a chance of showers that doesn’t result in at least a little rain? Seems like an unnecessary hedging of bets.

Wednesday, for example, has a 30 per cent chance of showers starting in the morning and well into the afternoon, with a risk of thunderstorms, a high of 17 C and winds gusting up to 50 km/h. That game of chance increases to 60 per cent in the evening, with winds staying in the 50 km/h range overnight. Thursday’s forecast is almost identical, a 60 per cent chance of showers with a high of 17 C and winds gusting up to 50 km/h.

I know it’s just a “chance” of showers, but I’d suggest carrying an umbrella with you for the next couple days, just in case.
