Some good news, it appears the worst is behind us. Just before 8 a.m., snowfall and extreme weather warnings were called off Monday for Edmonton and surrounding areas.
But the winter cold is expected to remain. Along with the heavy fog and 50 km/h windswept snow, forecasters are calling for a high of -18 with a wind chill that will make it feel like -29 — that means a serious risk of frost bite. Winds tomorrow are expected to gust to 15 km/h that will turn the high of -18 C into a wind chill of -28 in the morning and -21 in the afternoon.

Parking ban in effect tonight
The City of Edmonton is implementing a Phase 1 parking ban at 7 p.m. Monday for vehicles parked along major roadways, including arterial roads, collector roads and bus routes. However, people can still park on residential streets.
Parking is allowed on roads as soon as they have been cleared, so long as parking is allowed there normally. Residents should refer to the roadways snow clearing map for current clearing status of roadways.
Vehicles parked on banned roadways may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. If a vehicle has been towed, the owner should contact 311 for details.
Cold Streets
City has extended its extreme weather response until Friday March 1 at 8 a.m. to help keep vulnerable Edmontonians safe during the cold. If cold weather conditions persist, it may be further extended.

Edmontonians, start your snow blowers
Whether it be a shovel or a snow blower, it’s time to put those tools to work.
The City of Edmonton advises residents to remove snow from neighbourhood walkways as soon as possible following a major snow event. Failure to maintain your sidewalks could result in a $100 fine plus the cost of snow removal, the city says. Free sand is available at neighbourhood community leagues and city maintenance yards.
