It looks like the estranged wife of Rory McIlroy won’t be making things messy in their divorce proceeding.

Erica Stoll failed to meet the deadline to contest the divorce petition filed by the golf superstar last month, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Stoll was served papers at the couple’s Florida home on May 13 and had the state-standard 20 days to contest the filing, which she did not opt to do.

McIlroy was in Louisville, Ky., ready for the PGA Championship at the time the papers were served by a private investigator he had hired.

Per court records, McIlroy signed the divorce papers digitally on May 9 while he was in North Carolina competing in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hallow, which he went on to win.

The cutoff for Stoll’s response was on Sunday and an official with the Palm Beach County Clerk’s office confirmed to the Daily Mail that she hasn’t filed anything since being served.

This leaves Stoll at risk of having the court grant the the Northern Irishman a default divorce. If a default is entered, the case can continue without participation by the defaulted party.

The case would then continue without her having an opportunity to contest the petition, in which McIlroy describes the couple’s seven-year marriage as “irretrievably broken.”

McIlroy’s petition is seeking shared parental custody of the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Poppy, and asked for the court to enforce a prenup agreement signed prior to their wedding in 2017.

According to reports, Stoll reached “a breaking point” in the couple’s marriage before divorce papers were filed.

“A point of contention in Rory’s marriage with Erica was that Erica was lonely in their marriage,” a source told Us Weekly. “Rory was a hard person to be married to.”

McIlroy and Stoll, a former publicist, “were living very different lives the last two years with him being on the road, and eventually she had a breaking point,” the source said.

While the couple has remained silent on the matter, rumours have been swirling for the past few weeks about McIlroy’s dating life.

The four-time major winner and CBS Sports broadcaster Amanda Balionis have been “the talk of the links” after some noticed their close relationship at events over the past few weeks, according to the Daily Mail.

This past weekend at the RBC Canadian Open in Hamilton, the two were spotted in an off-camera embrace after shooting an interview following the final round of the tournament.
