A man has been charged with attempted murder after a Fort Saskatchewan shooting triggered a Sunday shelter in place order from RCMP.
The Alberta Emergency Alert was issued by RCMP at 11:50 a.m. Sunday after Fort Saskatchewan RCMP received a 9:53 a.m. report of a shooting outside a residential complex on 99 Avenue and Highway 15 in Fort Saskatchewan.

A 58-year old Fort Saskatchewan resident was later taken to hospital with injuries and is in stable condition, police said in a Tuesday news release.

RCMP called to the scene Sunday contained the residence but were not certain that the armed suspect was inside. As a result, police advised residents in that area to shelter in place and issued a police initialed public alert.
Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the Alberta RCMP emergency response team entered the home and arrested the suspect. The alert was cancelled.
Trevor William Chykerda, 32, of Fort Saskatchewan is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of possessing a firearm without being the holder of a licence, and uttering threats.
He was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for Nov. 23 at the Alberta court of justice in Fort Saskatchewan.
Fort Saskatchewan is approximately 36 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
