There was plenty to celebrate in the Edmonton Oilers dressing room following their most lopsided win of the season, outscoring the visiting Anaheim Ducks 8-2 on Sunday.
But here’s who we’re hoisting on our shoulders and who we’re kicking to the curb:

STUD: Connor McDavid
For those of us keeping score at home, it rarely gets any studlier than the goal and five points Oilers forward Connor McDavid earned Sunday.
Article content
That’s 12 points (3 G, 9A) in his past four games after coming up with just five over his previous nine since returning from an undisclosed injury looking nothing remotely close to his old self.
In fact, that Connor McDavid appeared all too human and nothing like the one we’re used to seeing on a nightly basis over his previous eight seasons in the NHL.
STUD: Darnell Nurse
His three assists were overshadowed by four from McDavid.
But together, Nurse and McDavid combined for six of Edmonton’s goals Sunday. You could have picked any number of their teammates up and down the roster to fill this spot, but Nurse also contributed big time on the defensive side of things, which has been sorely lacking far too much this season to go unnoticed when it’s finally starting to all come together.
DUD: Lukas Dostal
The Ducks backup goalie got his first start in five games and didn’t exactly make the most of his time in the spotlight.
He allowed six goals in 16 shots over the first 27:20 he spent in Anaheim’s net before being replaced by John Gibson.
STUD: Max Jones
Anaheim wasn’t full of duds, regardless of what the scoreboard suggested.
Jones not only put the visitors up by scoring the first goal of the game, but regained the lead for Anaheim by scoring both of their goals in a span of 2:38.
Of course, at that rate it would have taken three more Max Joneses to force overtime, the way the Oilers were firing on all cylinders Sunday.
