No translation is needed when he comes out of the gate with: “We just made too many booboos tonight,” before summing up not just Thursday night’s loss, but pretty much the whole season so far on their way to 2-6-1.
“We can’t expect to score four to five goals every night to win hockey games, it’s just not realistic.”
Then came the question: The sense is that this is a good team, you’re going to figure it out at some point. When do you start worrying?
“Forget the f**king sense, we have to show it on the ice and it will start on Saturday,” said Kane, whose team will face the visiting Nashville Predators on Saturday afternoon (1 p.m., Sportsnet).
For anyone keeping score at home, that’s three F-bombs dropped by the Oilers players and coach so far, and we’re nine games into this thing. That puts them on pace for 27 donations to the swear jar this season, with Kane, Darnell Nurse and Jay Woodcroft contributing.
Sure, there were others who spoke of their fourth loss in the last five games.
“We’re disappointed we lost the game,” Woodcroft said.
(More and more each time)
“I think there is a lot to like and build off of and we just have to keep pushing forward,” said Sam Gagner, who wasted no time showing his new, old team that production is possible in the bottom six with a pair of third-period goals in his season debut.
(Cuz really, what else are you gonna say?)
